In conclusion

I am thinking that this is my last blog on Paget and Partners site as a professional group as taken by work and created a massive site on my work and it is due to be launched in two weeks time. In pulling all me work over 35 years together I am staggered to what as being achieved. The site will contain well over 2000 pages when fully complete and contain 100s of products.

It as being quite an experience bringing together a life’s s work I must admit it has been a wonderful experience for example there are over 17 completed books which as never been published and many I had forgotten that I had written
Many years ago I brought neuroscience to the game of golf and my book can now be seen on www. Golfinfocus.com have a look if you play golf, I have helped many of the games best to achieve higher performances

Although I am 74 I still work the same hours at my desk at 4.00am and I am still working at 10.00pm, the conclusion I draw is that life balance and passion do not always fit well together

The area of my past that as given me the greatest satisfaction has been the work in raising the grades of over one million students who were failing at school of which I know of over a 100 who now have their PhDs

Coming back to schools what has been in my focus is the reality of the statement “that every child matters ” for I do not think that they do, nor will they until we get a paradigm shift in education, for the current approach is nothing more than a bureaucratic conveyor belt where we place children on it at say 5 years old and they get off it when they are 16 years old, on that journey between 50 to 60% get any real benefit from the rest dislike or hate the journey and this just cannot be right and many of them see the journey as one of endurance or a living hell which they must go through, if we were in their position we would miss-behave if had to endure everyday in a boring hell.

Looking at the reasons for this is that, it is believed that ICT and technology is the answer in itself. It is a tremendous help in education but sadly its effect on the process of learning is marginal. Our children live in an age where access to knowledge is virtually unlimited but few children are shown how to access it effectively, in the non school area they access knowledge at lightening fast speed from facebook, internet , and mobile phones than they ever achieve at school

So to keep this blog positive what has to be done to make school the best party in town for all the students , a place where they enjoy learning

To achieve this I know that our approach to teaching must change and embrace the needs of the student and the skills they will need in their future lives. Currently our approach belongs to decades past of knowledge transfer

Before and during the primary phase of education we must determine the learning style of children, working with the experts on this crucial issue the parents for they saw how they learnt from birth. That should be documented and be the key document which the child take to their next phase of their education their secondary school

With this knowledge secondary teachers should cater for this style by adapting their delivery to achieve the maximum of knowledge transfer for the learners style

About learning styles in my opinion there are only two , either there left hemisphere leads and they are categorised as ASL (auditory sequential learners ) or the lead with their right hemisphere and are categorised as VSL visual sequential learners . From my research is about 60% ASL and 40% VSL
Teaching ASL we are brilliant at, we have perfected our approach over centuries of education, sadly the same cannot be said for VSL in fact we are hopeless at it
Hence due to this we fail 40% of our students ,little wonder we have behavioral issues and keeping a n entire of a class on task is virtually impossible .
Yet to change our approach is not difficult and every teacher can be taught how to run a class where the students are in a focused flow state , in this state behavioral issues are non existent . Recently we organised a seminar to show teacher how to this surprisingly no one was interested why, because we are still in the ASL teaching mode

I firmly believe that there are very few of children/students should leave school without a C grade in 5 subjects , this opinion is based on my work with over one million VSL students since 1995. In other words the English Baccalaureate should be expected qualification for all students , why because in their changing world they will need the knowledge when you consider that the most sought after jobs this year did not exist in 2004

Children must be taught content in all subjects for it is essential for their future, my point is how it is delivered to ensure that all the students obtain the knowledge being transferred . Let me give you an example, in English the first task is to get student s to enjoy the process of writing currently we place greater emphasis on grammar and spelling that on the getting students to enjoy writing first, then it is easy to get the spelling and grammar right

In mathematics which is a national concern both at primary as well as secondary we fail to see the importance of fast mental manipulation and memory which is rarely if ever taught . For example it is easy to get to teach year 5 students how to multiply two digit numbers in their heads . One teacher said why should we teach this when they can use a calculator , one the brain is faster and two students are not be taught mental and memory manipulation. Recently a group of 30 year 5 and 6 were calculating faster in their heads than a group of teachers with calculators. This another area where neuroscience can help primary schools

One of the most fundamental skills I am sure that you will agree is the ability to read and comprehend affectively. We achieve this task at the infant stage then we leave the process to the students natural development . The ASL develops to well and reaches up to 250 words per minute and a comprehension of 40 to 60 % on the other hand the VSL struggles to achieve 150 words per minute and comprehension at 20 to 40% so in non school time does little reading to improve themselves .
Yet the irony of this situation is that VSL can be taught to read a 650 word per minute at comprehension levels exceeding 70%+ and I have volumes of evidence to prove this point

The next factor I must address is how we teach or the lack of it is the emotional skills which is a vital part of the learning process, this is where the education system must involve proactively the parents for school cannot teach these skills on their own , why because our emotions run 24/7 and cannot be left at the school gate like all the other subjects and children are only at school for 13.6% of their time in any one year. Therefore it is essential that schools engage parents in their teaching not in advisory role but in a total involvement in the programme. The key emotional skills is vital to maximize performance as I am sure you would all agree that attitude and Motivation are key in this process and again they can be taught
Our emotions are the drivers to our success as individuals. Now at long last there is a school which are taking my approach throughout their school to the benefit of staff, students and parents

In conclusion, many years ago I wrote a book called the Journey of Life if you want a copy of it before it is published it is fully laid out as an ebook just send me an email and I will send you a copy not free but almost, the same apples to the Code of Successful Students this is a Power Point programme and if you want to see it before purchase go on to Skype (drroy73) and I will show you and I would love to meet you

Dr Roy Paget

Hello All

At this time I would like to extend to  all my readers  the sprit of Christmas, peace. Respect care and giving to others, reflection over the last twelve moths and a positive outlook for the next twelve months.

In my review over the last twelve months  was the proof using MRI scanning techniques that my duel hemispheric learning ( DHL) system works. I see many courses say they are based on how the brain works few get the opportunity to prove it

In an application I witnessed over a 1000 students and over 400 adults from all walks of life  doubling their comprehension and I think you will agree with me that is vital with the data overload that is being transferred every single day that the rate which we absorb data is critical especially when you consider that the average reading speed from a screen drops to 130 words per minute. The stats are mind boggling for this data overload with over 2 Trillion unique URLs and an estimated 5 Billion words added daily.

Yet DHL is very easy to learn and use takes about three hours in face to face training ,it can also be trained over Skype as many of my clients are from America Canada and Saudi Arabia

I was frustrated that schools showed little interest in improving the comprehension and the students ability to understand the subjects and topics they are taught for I am sure you will agree that comprehension and understanding  are core skills of learning, when teaching these skills to their students  when it yields the following benefits

Less behaviour issues

Higher grades

Greater  Personal Confidence from a greater absorption and retention of data

Every teacher can expect a 15% increase in retention of knowledge taught

It is even more annoying when the feedback from a 1000 students all asked the same question, "why wasn’t this taught to every student ".

One student staggered me when she read at 1200WPM and her comprehension was 90%+ on whatever text we gave her to read

So what is the reason why schools are reluctant to teach the basic learning skills that applies to every student , why should we make learning a struggle when it is a natural phenomena in us all , there seems little progress in closing the gap between learning and education the belief that computers and associated software can close the gap is totally wrong

In training Lawyers Accountants Teachers and Business people  they all improved their comprehension rates to a point where they saw an immediate benefits in greater

Greater Personal Confidence from a greater absorption and retention of data

Less pressure hence lower stress

My second highlight was the development of a new approach to the teaching of Emotional Intelligence which is sorely needed when you consider 18% of working adults was bullied last year however I am pleased to say that one school  has recognised the importance of teaching an emotional intelligence curriculum in the school starting at year 7 and stopping  at the end of year 11

Finally I am about to run a webinar for parents to teach children from pre-birth to 5 years old emotional  management for this is the really effective time to do this  why?

It is the only time when our right brain is dominant as the left is very slow in development

Also children in this group have 750 trillion to 5 quadrillion more connections than adults, from 5 onwards the reduces these to 5 trillion on a basis of use it or lose it .These facts bring into Sharpe focus the quality of baby minders, carers, Nurseries and  pre-school  establishments . For I question how many are skilled in training the right hemisphere

Have a great new year and if ever you want my help email me

Regards

Roy

Why didn’t all students get 5A to C

Why do so many students fail to read write and calculate when they leave primary school well enough to guide them through the rest of their life

Some would argue that it is down to inherited intelligence, some would blame it on parent’s inability to support their children

I contend that the chief factor is the way students learn, for at GCSE level I do not think that intelligence at this level plays a significant part.

Neuroscience as helped us to understand how our brain learns with MRI and other techniques they enable us to peer inside and get a glimpse of what is happening when the brain is learning.

Despite past theories regarding intelligence and multiple intelligences I believe did not consider or to recognise the most crucial aspects of how our brain learns that of hemispheric differences and role of emotions in the process of learning.

The key factor remains that our learning paradigm used by schools is focused on teaching just one hemisphere the left, therefore all students whose learning process is controlled by the right will do less well at school, this group is estimated to be around the 54% mark.

Let me explain what I mean by comparing the left brain led students with the right brain student

AUDITORY-SEQUENTIAL                                                VISUAL-SPATIAL

Thinks primarily in words -                                          Thinks primarily in pictures

Has auditory strengths-                                                 Has visual strengths

Relates well to time -                                                      Relates well to space

Is a step-by-step learner                                               Is a whole-part learner

Learns by trial and error                                               -Learns concepts all at once

Is an analytical thinker-                                                 Is a good synthesizer

Attends well to details-                                                Sees the big picture; may miss details

Follows oral directions well-                                       Reads maps well

Does well at arithmetic-                                               Is better at math reasoning than computation

Learns phonics easily                                                   -Learns whole words easily

Can sound out spelling words                                   -Must visualize words to spell them

Can write quickly and neatly                                       -Prefers keyboarding to writing

Is well-organized -                                                         Creates unique methods of organization

Can show steps of work easily-                                  Arrives at correct solutions intuitively

Excels at rote memorization                                       -Learns best by seeing relationships

Has good auditory short-term memory                    -Has good long-term visual memory

May need some repetition to reinforce learning     -Learns concepts permanently; hates repetition

Learns well from instruction                                    -Develops own methods of problem solving

Learns in spite of emotional reactions-                     Is very sensitive to teachers’ attitudes

Is comfortable with one right answer                         -Generates unusual solutions to problems

Develops fairly evenly-                                                Develops quite asynchronously

Usually maintains high grades -                                 May have very uneven grades

A mere glance a the two columns immediately tell you which are disadvantaged by the school paradigm yet strategies to teach visual learners in the same classroom takes little investment by the school with the result that behavioral issues would be dramatically reduced  and grades would increase. However to achieve this the current school paradigm has to totally though through and remodeled

My Guidelines for Teaching Visual-Spatial Learners (VSLs)

1.      Present ideas visually on whiteboard" A picture is worth a thousand words which is very true especially for the VSL

2.      Teach the student to visualize spelling words, math problems, etc. An effective method of teaching spelling is to write the word in large, colored print and present it to the student at arm's length, slightly above eye level. Have them close their eyes, visualize the word, and then create a silly picture of the word in their mind. Then have them spell it backwards (by doing this they are using visualization), then forwards, then write it once.

3.      Use inductive techniques as often as possible. This works on the visual-spatial learner's pattern-finding strength.

4.      Teach the student to translate what they see and read into images, and record those images using mind-mapping techniques, or pictorial notes. In other words let them become master doodlers

5.      Incorporate spatial exercises, visual imagery, reading material that is rich in fantasy, and visualization exercises into the curriculum. Spatial conceptualization has the ability to go beyond linear thinking because it deals more readily with complexities and the interrelations of systems.

6.      Avoid constant, repetition, and rote memorization; use more abstract conceptual approaches and more difficult problems.

7.      Teach to the student's strengths. Help the student learn to use these strengths to compensate for weaknesses. Visualization and imagination are the visual-spatial learner's most powerful tools and should be used frequently.

8.      Allow the student to use a computer for assignments,

9.      Concentrate on content of written work than to format. VSL often suffer from deficits in in spelling, punctuation, paragraphing, etc.

10.  Allow the student to construct, draw or otherwise create visual representations of a concept as a substitute for some written assignments, again mind mapping is an excellent way of achieving this

11.  Expose VSLs to role models of successful adults who learn in a similar manner. Many of the most celebrated scientists were visual-spatial learners. Biographical sketches of famous visual-spatial learners can be found by browsing on the net

12.  Be emotionally supportive of the student. Visual-spatial learners are keenly aware of their teachers' reactions to them due the fact that they are more emotionally volatile, and often their success in overcoming their difficulties appears directly related to the empathy of their teacher

Still those are my ideas, however if we address their needs they will rewards us by their higher grades

With the cooperation of the staff it takes about 30 minutes to find out which students are visual learners and I will also demonstrate how to teach the group known as extreme VSL in three topics from three subjects (science Mathematics and English) and after school over a 2 hour period train interested staff how to teach VSL

Why do we need The Parents’ Academy?

  • The Education system in the UK fails nearly half of our students.
  • Nearly all schools fail to recognise that, at some level, all parents want their children to do their best, but don’t know where to start to help.
  • Regardless of their own school experiences, parents, properly directed, can make a significant contribution to their child’s learning success, attitude and behaviour.
  • Many parents find the education system difficult to understand and therefore fail to obtain the best deal for their children.
  • Many children fail in the system because neither the school nor the parents really understand how the child learns and therefore how best to teach them.
  • Parents have huge challenges today in motivating their children, keeping them focussed, and helping them to do the best they can at all ability levels.
  • Where children fail at school, it can often be because their own learning styles do not match up with the way the school teaches them. Small changes in style can produce large changes in motivation and achievement.
  • There are no formal qualifications for being a parent. We all do as many wrong things as right ones. But there are basic, simple things we can do for our children at all ages that can maximise their chances of doing their best. These simple things can be taught quickly and do not rely on any previous expertise or knowledge.

What is The Parents’ Academy?

  • The Parents’ Academy, established by Dr Roy Paget, a Neuro Scientist and learning expert and parent and Roland Roberts an experienced Governor in primary and secondary schools and a parent of two children, has been launched to support parents to help them to help their children.
  • The Parents’ Academy offers parents simple to understand, easy to implement methods and tips to help create a good learning environment, understand the way that their child learns, and, using this knowledge, help their child to learn to the best of their abilities.
  • The Academy can assist parents by showing how, in ten minutes or so a day, that they can help their children retain much more of what they learn at school without spending hours revising every night.
  • The Academy helps parents to support their children with revision planning and how to revise.
  • Additional support is available to those who want to take it further with additional on line content, additional training and literature.
  • It also supports them in their relationships with schools, making clear the way schools work and helping them to help their children by knowing what to ask at parents’ evenings or when they are worried and want to ask questions.

The Parents’ Academy is timely:

A great deal of time is taken by Government and media on the ‘business’ of Education.

Whether it be arguments about finance, new buildings, staffing, targets, SATs, GCSE and A level successes and the inevitable league tables, or the pluses and minuses of Academies, it’s often all about the education system itself and not about the learners and the learning that goes on inside it.

But if education isn’t centred on learning, on how each child learns and on making sure that all children are taught in accordance with their learning style, then we will do very little else but continue to fail nearly half of all school leavers.

It can’t be right that children leave primary education in 2011 unable to read to a minimum standard when they have no learning difficulties. How can a child hope to keep up at high school when they have already failed at primary?

The perpetual circle of failure is fuelled by a misconception that attitudes, behaviour and learning are primarily motivated from the parent’s perspective, by the school, and from the school’s perspective by the interest (or lack of interest) in the child that the parents have.

It’s not about one or the other of the elements – it’s actually about both.

A full partnership between parents and the school.

Not the half hearted partnerships that have been tried before, where the parents are invited into the school when the child has a specific issue, or to attend an event or to monitor homework, but a real partnership, where the school and the parents are intimately involved with the child’s learning. Where the parents understand what kind of learner their child is, where they understand how to best help them to get the most from school.

Parent’s need to understand a number of important issues like:

  • How to create a workspace at home for their child that supports their learning.
  • How to make learning the centre of the household, so that, no matter where their child is on the achievement spectrum, that the family can do its part in ensuring that they understand what’s going on and support their child to learn to the best of their abilities.
  • Parents can make a huge difference to how their child progresses at school, and it doesn’t matter how they did at school themselves.
  • How to ask the right questions and get the right support for your child.
  • How to motivate negotiate and reward to get your child working effectively.
  • How to revise.
  • How parents can do all of this regardless of their own past experiences and attainment at school.

This partnership helps the parent understand how well the child is doing, how the school has set the child’s targets going forward and what the parents have to do to play their part in making their child achieve those targets.

Parents focussed in the right way can make a huge difference to a child’s progress. A recent study by Bristol university suggested that the difference could be up to 2 grades per subject.

The Parents’ Academy is there to instruct and support parents, helping them to, in turn, support and encourage their children to be the best that they can be.

The Parents Academy can help your school to release Parent Power to lift your Grades we will run courses for your Parents and offer them 24/7 support

If you want to know the details of our courses and support to parents

Why are we so cruel to students?

When are we going to equip them for their future and allow them to get access to more knowledge and raise their grades? Yes we are very efficient at educating them through professional teaching but their knowledge absorption is so very poor and has consequence teacher have to work far harder to achieve the standards required. Our understanding of the process of learning is inadequate and through our ignorance we are been cruel

Let me explain by an actual example

Take 40 A Level students their average reading speed was just 145 words per minute their comprehension on a single read was 40% therefore their knowledge absorption rate was 57 when to achieve a good A Level it needs to be well over 250

After just 3 hours of re-training their basic learning process this went up to 350 both students and teachers were amazed and one previously sceptical teacher remarked she had seen a miracle

The measurement used was (speed of Input X retention and understanding)  experienced students using  this method can get up to 800

All who witnessed this event  recognised that this absorption factor had not changed since year 6 at Primary school and some of the teachers were now in their 40s

Dual Hemispheric learning applies to all students from year 6 at primary school to adult .

I need your help to get has many young people and adults to break free of their mental prison, I want to train teachers and educators in this method so that they can give release as many students from this prison.

Please contact me if you can help, if you are sceptical please contact me over Skype and let me train you, currently I am helping students in Saudi Arabia Canada and America using Skype .

Why not give students the chance to improve their grades by accessing and understanding more knowledge by using their brains more efficiently and give teachers more satisfaction from their work by seeing their students improve their grades. Also it will have an effect on behaviour as students will become engaged by greater confidence in their own ability to learn

Dual Hemispheric Learning help students to get A* from a B and it is particularly useful in lifting struggling students into confidence

Dual Hemispheric Learning uses both hemispheres to learn in a focused way and we have tested to make sure we are right through MRI experiments, it brings learning to a totally new and exciting dimension

What will it do for your school?
It will raise grades
It will put a renewed emphasis on to learning and enable 40% plus of your students whose learning process is lead by their right hemisphere to get higher grades and not to languish in the lower ones getting more out of their time at school
Because of the unique follow up programme which continues right up to their exams it give continuous life coaching to each student giving them self belief and inner confidence
It brings parents into a proactive support role to all teaching staff
It gives the school an integrative revision system that will eliminate the end of term panic
Credibility

Neural Learning Programme since 1995 has raised the grades of over one million CD Borderline students. It applies to all categories of students in your school, those who are struggling to get above a C, students who need A and B grades to go into their chosen career
This week we taught the programme to a group of year 11 students who have been totally excluded from the state schools because of their extreme behaviour, in the 3 hour session all the 8 students were totally engaged and since day 1 are showing real and sustained progress
Neural Learning Programme has gone global it is currently being used to train students in Canada, America and Saudi Arabia with measured improvement.
Its follow up programme uses the latest “Cloud” technology and Skype so that every student can have their own portal on the web and get one to one support as well as there parents

When the Neural Learning Programme was focused in the last academic year on Mathematics and English 1000 students improved their performance by a measured 30%

The Neural Learning Programme approach to activating both the brain hemisphere was tested using MRI scanning techniques this summer therefore we have a sound scientific basis for its effectiveness, it is doubtful that current approaches to learning has been so scientifically tested to this degree.

Neural Learning Programme

The first part of the programme teaches your students the POR system so that they can use a whole brain approach to working with text.
The second part of the programme trains students in using the extracted key words from any text to create word pictures which improves understanding and the retention of knowledge gained in every lesson, it is also critical for visual learners which we estimate to be 40% of the students in your school.

Visual learners are students whose learning process is controlled by their right hemisphere, using the left hemisphere learning techniques which is used in our current education system is similar to asking a left handed student to use their right hand to write with, little wonder they are often the perpetrators of low level classroom behaviour

The third part of the programme shows students how to use key words from every lesson taught to create memory triggers for effective retrieval of the knowledge given, again vital for visual learners. What is different to many programmes on memory, students design the system which suits their learning style which is never taught in schools?

Also it is proven fact, that to lift your mathematics grades, one sure way of doing this is to teach your students basic memory skills. We will show your maths team how to do this

Included in the programme is a distant learning element which is sent through their school Cloud Portal so that each student can access it from any computer, it is sent on weekly basis to life coach the students in the crucial focusing of their emotions on to their learning process? This improves their self belief and confidence and from student feedback has a real effect upon them

Delivery can be achieved using a variety of formats

Face to face training for 3 or 4 days during these sessions we will train staff and carry out a parent’s workshop, showing parents how to support their child in simple practical ways.

Each session lasts for 2 ½ hours per group of 30. Two groups can be run each day

It can and is currently been delivered by Skype using a laptop and data projector in 4 sessions for a lesson duration this gives teachers the ability to address particular learning needs of their class, it is the Skype method which is been used in the countries mentioned above with great success that we will use in this approach

Before making a decision on its suitability for your students why not select a member of your staff to see precisely what the programme consists of to evaluate it in a meaningful way by the use of Skype and I will share screens I will use and the approach with your contact. This process makes decision making so much easier and effective than web pages or emails. Price is a direct function of your needs so give me a call to discus it.

We only take on 20 schools per year as of today’s date we have 14 slots left and it is critical that we run day 1 prior to Christmas

We look forward to hearing from you and together we will close the gap between Education and Learning

All those engaged in helping with children’s development know that the fundamental Life Script for children is written in the years 0 – 5, and in my 35-years as a neuroscientist I have developed practical strategies that give ALL parents and carers a way forward to helping their child to learn more effectively that truly works.
To reach as many Parents and Carers with a personal interaction and at low cost I have decided to run a webinar on September 15, 2011. I firmly believe that every parent and carer should attend as my practical and easy to try tips can have a dramatic effect on children entering school both in terms of Academic Performance and behavior if used properly.
Click the coloured text for details

If you want to join me in my passion for helping children develop using their brain in the most efficient way please circulate this email to everyone to every parent and carer to give the choice of attending this life changing event. For those who cannot make it we can record the event and they can join us at a more appropriate time.
Parents or Carers
Recent research done by Bristol University shows that those students who get focused parental support at an early stage will have a significantly more productive time at school and better life prospects compared with those young children who are not supported. I am sure that yo, like most parents will want to give your child that support to enable them to get as much success in life as they possibly can. Using some simple tips for very short periods of time will have a profound effect on their school performance.
You hold the key to their life’s success
Join with me, Dr Roy Paget for a groundbreaking new practical approach to helping your child succeed.
There are a few very important reasons why every parent and carer should to attend this webinar:

REASON 1: A child between the ages of 0-5 can be taught the basics of the following life skills which collectively make up their life script that will stay with them for ever.
1 The ability to recognise their feelings and control them
2 The ability to know their strengths and weaknesses
3 The ability to self motivate themselves
4 The ability to have emotional self control
5 The ability to handle conflicts for the rest of their life
6 The ability to make and sustain close relationships
7 The ability to make decisions
8 The ability to evaluate choice
9 The ability to identify facts from assumptions
10 The ability to develop leadership
Attendee Parents and Carers will be given strategies that will do this that every parent can use immediately is crucial in their child’s development

REASON 2: It is during this early period of their lives that a child’s self esteem is set
It is during this time where the child right hemisphere is in control therefore all strategies must be focused on the right brain functionality, and the right brain starts learning immediately after birth.
Their self esteem is locked into their Right Hemisphere long before their left can describe their feelings with words

REASON 3: “Finger on the pulse”

You has Parents and Carers want practical strategies that you can use each and every day of their busy and demanding lives that works. If you want to give your child a Life Script that will enhance their life forever, if you want to set them up in the right way to make them successful I can give you the strategies to follow and tips that any parent can implement immediately. Parents and Carers who attend will be given the opportunity to discuss personal issues regarding their child either by skype or by telephone with me for a period of 6 months following the webinar at no extra charge

Warmest regards,

Roy Paget

When are we going to recognise the fact that schools cannot totally educate our children?

This year we saw an estimated 0.8% increase in GCSE results, of course we saw some schools achieve their best performance ever and I congratulate them for helping so many young people prepare for their challenging world and there are those schools that by selection all students achieve 100% .

Around each and every school there is an untouched awesome power that can rocket the results of every school by 20% or more and the sad thing is that it as always been there

That power is the Parents

Let me give you the absolute facts
Every human been lives for 8760 hours per year
Children are at school in total for about 14%
They are educated for 10%
They are with Parents for 86%
Global research shows that when Parents give their focused support they can lift the grades of their children by at least 2 grades

Currently there are many programmes dedicated to helping parents, schools themselves by use of their websites give parents endless data and statistics but despite all of this the power of parents remained untapped and the further we go down the social scale the situation worsens. Schools attempt to hold meetings where if they are lucky they will get an attendance of 50% of parents attending and then the evenings are situations where parents are lectured to and not integrated as a part of the learning process. Or they attend Parents evening with or without their children to be told how their child is getting on and after a brief discussion move on to the next teacher, without an action plan for the parent to get involved and feedback the success of failure of their efforts

I say learning because it is not the function of the parent to educated that is the function of the schools after all who is the expert on how their child learns the parent, they saw how their brain developed and which approach their child took from Birth

So how can any school use this power?

By I believe to recognise firstly with a constant interchange with the Primary School to establish a definitive approach to learning which every child individually takes, if they are a visual learner the delivery of their education must be directed to their natural learning style this from research of other and myself represents about 40% of students. In addition, an analysis of their Childs emotional intelligence, covering such items as effective listening, self belief, confidence and attitudes. For if it was identified that a child had poor listening skills who better to teach this kill than their parent if they knew HOW. For the 6 years at primary this should evaluated on a yearly basis and entered into the child learning report and co-signed by both parent and the school. This process must be seen as an active partnership with clear observations and action. Yes it will take more time for the teachers and the parents, but what is at stake is the life of a child

On their transition to the secondary school a this report should accompany every child on their attendance to the secondary school so that teachers know with certainty how each child learns and can adapt their delivery to suit each child requirements.

All teachers should be trained on how to deliver their subjects both to auditory sequential learners (ASL) and visual learners. For to only teach to ASL requirements is cruel it is comparable with trying to get a left handed person to write with their right hand

Parents should be given practical techniques that they can help their child learn in the most effective way these techniques require no previous knowledge on and subjects to use in their home
In terms of emotional intelligence it is crucial that parents are involved because our emotions run for 8760 hours per year they even invade our dreams, I believe that no school can effectively teach emotional Intelligence without the direct involvement of the parents, this is why we have seen no improvement in academic performance with the introduction of SEAL. In the teaching of emotional intelligence their must be one curriculum where parents are given specific actions and tasks to fulfil timed precisely to the topics taught at school

Such an approach exists and can be seen by visiting www.thelearningpages.co.uk
Parents are essential in the process of Learning for they have a major part to play in closing the gap between education and learning
For there is virtually no parent who do not wish the best of their child whatever the best means, and there are not many parents to if they know HOW could spend 20 minutes a day giving their child the success that will help them for life itself, for learning is life long where as education is time limited
Will schools release this power this year unlikely for a gap still exists between parent and school?

Many Parents send their child to school to be educated and then wash their hands of their child’s development. School only contact with school outside the organised meetings is usually for discipline measures. As yet there is no organised integrated way of linking the schools and parents into one process of development, where the parents unique ability to focus on their child on a one to one basis can be used to raise performance at school

Parents must become partners in every way for their child to become the best that they can be in their chosen interest
To help this I am running a number of webinars for parents and schools
The first webinar is for all parents where I will explain the essential techniques to help every child improve. It is also vital for teachers who can pass these techniques on to parents who did not attend the webinar

http://www.wiziq.com/online-class/598613-the-parents-academy-helping-you-to-help-your-child-learn

The next webinar is covering that crucial area for emotional Intelligence which is Birth to 5 Years old in this webinar parents will receive how they can build the strongest foundations for their child for life itself and for future years at school

http://www.wiziq.com/online-class/598885-emotional-intelligence-training-toddlers-in-e-q

I hope that all my readers will join me for I believe that every child matters, every child is precious and each and everyone as unique talents if we can find out how they learn and teach them how to gain the most from their education.

The information given in the webinars works it as trialed and tested in the last academic year they worked by all children whose parents gave them this focused support all improved their grades

Here we go again rioters running through our street stealing plundering and igniting fires and trying to crush the police, the last time it was racially divided lines, people are now asking why as it happened
Many of the young people are in their final year when they go back to school
Let us look at the case of one of those young persons
Receives a message from twitter
Come to Croydon and lets have fun
Now is the moment of choice does stay at home with his mother( single parent) or does he jump on the underground and go to Croydon for fun
On arrival at Croydon he is quickly absorbed the rioting
That young person was 14 years old, efficient at arson, stealing and greed but hopeless at school subjects the truth is we have between the educational establishments and Parents educated a criminal and also almost involved in a murder if the occupant above the shop had not jumped to safety
Where along his development was he taught
Self awareness. Self control. self motivation, the empathic skills and the social skills
Until we teach emotional intelligence as a curriculum where the teaching in schools is synchronized with parental teaching covering the same subjects as the school this happen if not on the current scale as individual events over and over again. Every child lives for 8760 hours per year they are at school for 1200 hours they are parents responsibility for 7560 hours that is why there must be a partnership between schools and parents, schools cannot do it on their own it is impossible emotions unlike school subjects run 24 hours a day 365 days a year this can be done with the latest technology of videos webinars and computers. The education of our children is NOT the sole preserve of the schools it is a partnership between parents and schools
I have been advocating this for years even before Goleman
We must teach Emotional Management in our school, surely we will all agree that Attitude, Self belief and control and respect for others is important subjects to teach not only for excellence in academic subjects but for life itself
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJVuyBhiir4&feature=related

Also can you imagine what is like to be a visual learner where their learning is controlled by right hemisphere of their brain been taught for 10 years in an educational system that is left brain dominated
The sad fact is that to change this is simple and requires no real investment
So in truth it was morally wrong what they did but we created the situation for where else or who else did they learn from except us
I have an answer for these issues if people will listen and engage in the solution all that it takes is an email and a conversation roy@pagetandpartners.co.uk

This Blog finds me in a reflective mood , many of my young friends will soon know the results of all their hard work, school are waiting to see if grades have improved
However in my reflections I see that there is a case of imprisonment again with students generally getting 30% below what they should achieve, why because the gap between the current methods of education and the process of learning. School rarely adapt fast to new approaches and the great strides in understanding how the brain learns
That Emotional Intelligence is still finding itself tucked away into a PSHE curriculum and not integrated into mainline teaching
Yet who would doubt that
Attitude
Self awareness and Self Belief
Listening skills
Making Choices and decision making skills
Self Motivation
The empathic skills
And so many more are not important in the achievement of academic skills

In the core skills of learning which every school would place highly on their list of basic requirements including

Reading
Numeracy
Writing
Thinking skills including Creativity

Our approach to these core skills are still leaving 1000s of students an incompetence that is hard to believe, students are still prisoners of the education system which is two decades behind and yet these core learning skills are so easy to teach and use

To prove my point I will over skype train any student between 10 and 75 how to dramatically improve their learning rate in just four one hour sessions changing struggling to average, average to excellent, and excellent to gifted and for double the time I can turn average to excellent. Why am I so confident because since 1994 I have raised the grades of over one million students who were struggling with education and that is all the time I gave them

If you want to take me up on my challenge send me an email to roy@pagetandpartners.co.uk and I will send you my skype address so that we can meet
